What Late-Night Brainstorms Taught Me About Building Creator-preneurs

It always begins the same way—with a casual “what if” conversation, usually long after midnight, when ideas outpace logic. For Nitibha Kaul and me, those late-night chats often wandered through beauty, self-expression, and her dream of creating something that was truly her own.

That dream eventually became Alt+K Beauty—a brand that’s skincare-first with a hint of tint, and 100% rooted in Nitibha’s belief that makeup should be good for you. But bringing that dream to life wasn’t just about one creator’s vision. It was the product of countless brainstorms, strategic decisions, and a small but mighty team turning creativity into a business.

From Conversations to Concept

Alt+K Beauty was born from a December 2022 reachout by The Beauty Co-lab team and from Nitibha’s personal frustrations with makeup that felt heavy, harsh, and unfriendly to acne-prone skin. For her, beauty needed to feel good, look good, and fit into an on-the-go lifestyle.

As her strategist and agency partner, my role was to translate that vision into a tangible brand—one grounded in “skincare-first, makeup-second.” With The Beauty Co-lab’s deep expertise in building beauty brands, those midnight notes slowly evolved into a product line built to solve real problems, not just follow trends.

The Audience as the First Investor

Creator-led brands have a unique superpower—their built-in communities. Nitibha’s audience didn’t just watch Alt+K come to life; they helped shape it.

We started with a simple questionnaire that invited followers, friends, family, and even our own teams at Pocket Aces and The Beauty Co-lab to join the process. They tested products, shared feedback, and influenced key decisions.

After nearly two years of development and testing, we launched Alt+K Beauty with products that were truly co-created with the community. When your audience feels part of the journey, they don’t just buy the brand—they believe in it.

Balancing Authenticity with Ambition

Building a creator-led brand means every detail feels personal—and it should. From design tweaks to product names, Nitibha was deeply involved in every decision.

As a strategist, my challenge was to honor that authenticity while ensuring the brand could scale sustainably. The key was never to dilute her voice. Alt+K Beauty had to feel unmistakably hers—whether you discovered it through an Instagram post, on a store shelf, or in an ad campaign.

Together with the creative team at Brave New World, we built a brand that mirrored her tone, intent, and personality in every touchpoint—from the archetype and logo to packaging and product storytelling.

A Small Team with a Big Vision

Behind every successful launch is a whirlwind of organized chaos. Alt+K Beauty wasn’t powered by a massive corporation, but by a small, passionate team wearing multiple hats.

At The Beauty Co-lab, Emma Hagemo, Stanley Teng, and Pranjal Kukreja shaped the products, supply chain, and distribution. The Brave New World team brought the creative vision to life.

At Clout, Pocket Aces, my team and I managed everything from strategy and social to PR and production—often testing foundation shades one day and directing shoots the next.

Those months taught me that while structure sets the base, it’s creativity and agility that truly power creator brands. When resources are limited, creativity becomes the most valuable currency.

Marketing with Stories, Not Ads

Traditional beauty launches lean on big budgets and glossy campaigns. But with creator-led brands, the story is the campaign.

For Nitibha, Alt+K’s story was deeply personal—rooted in her real-life beauty struggles and solutions. Every reel, post, and behind-the-scenes moment offered a glimpse into her world. That relatability turned product drops into conversations and launches into celebrations.

Our Alt+Krew—fans, friends, and early users—became part of our social storytelling. After all, real stories and real results will always be more powerful than perfectly polished ads.

Emotions Are the Strategy

Working on Alt+K Beauty made one thing crystal clear: in creator-preneurship, emotions aren’t a distraction—they are the strategy.

From shade selection to copywriting, every detail carried Nitibha’s emotional imprint. That’s what makes creator brands special—they don’t just sell products; they sell values, stories, and a piece of the creator themselves.

My Takeaway as a Strategist

I’ve worked on influencer campaigns for brands like Garnier Men, Limca, and Nykaa, but this experience was different.

Helping build Alt+K Beauty from the ground up taught me that creator-preneurship isn’t just about KPIs or spreadsheets—it’s about nurturing a dream, giving it structure, and helping it grow without losing its soul.

Creators don’t just build businesses—they build movements. And as strategists, our job isn’t to tame their vision, but to help it take flight.

From Brainstorms to Brands

When I look back, I can’t help but smile. It all started with scattered ideas, late-night voice notes, and endless “what ifs.”

Today, just six months post-launch, Alt+K Beauty has achieved nearly 3,000 orders, 30 days of billboards across prime Delhi locations, and three Grazia Indie Beauty Superstar Award nominations—for every SKU.

Alt+K Beauty is proof that when creators dream and strategists build, the outcome isn’t just a brand—it’s a story, a community, a movement.

Because sometimes, all it takes is one late-night brainstorm to spark something unforgettable.
