Instagram is developing a new feature that will allow users to see profiles in read-only mode, according to app analyst Alessandro Paluzzi.

The functionality would block users from engaging with their profiles when the mode is enabled. Users would be unable to like or comment on posts, send messages, follow accounts, or watch Stories.

The option looks to be part of Instagram’s premium add-on package, although the site has not verified the function or its availability.Paluzzi provided an image of Instagram’s read-only profile feature being tested.

The capability might enable users to explore profiles without mistakenly interfering with postings or accounts. It might also be used by users who wish to scroll through previous content without providing engagement signals like likes or comments.

Instagram has not specified when or if the read-only viewing feature would be made more widely available.
